The Community Pastoral Counseling Service was founded in 1971 to provide a unique pastoral resource for Iowa City and the surrounding community. It is a non-profit corporation governed by a board of directors selected by participating churches. The board is composed of both clergy and lay people who work in conjunction with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.
